Farid Ahmed, the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Walthamstow, called for a fair tax system in a keynote speech at the Liberal Democrat spring conference.

Farid told a packed conference hall that he wanted a tax system that would make a difference - "a fair tax system for us all". Blasting Labour's endless red tape and dismissed Conservative plans for a tax cut for the rich, Farid called for an end to the tax avoidance which left the people of Walthamstow picking up the tab as Britain's profits went overseas.

Commenting, Farid said: "I was delighted to have the chance to fight at the party conference for a fair tax system we can believe in. This election will be a once in a generation chance to see real change - to see a tax system that works for the people in Walthamstow and across the country.

"The Lib Dem plans mean that the 10,000 pensioners in Walthamstow will be better off. The plans mean that on average people will have £700 back in their pocket. The plans mean that 3.6 million people won't have to pay a penny of income tax. This will be the most fundamental change to our tax system for decades.

"Liberal Democrats are ready to lead and ready to make real changes. We are not the kingmakers - the 45 million voters in this country are the kingmakers. In the last election 1 in 4 voters choose the Liberal Democrats. In this election if 1 in 3 voters choose the Liberal Democrats then we could lead the next government. This will give a real chance for the changes this country so badly needs."

The choice in Walthamstow at the next election will be between the Lib Dems and Labour. With the Conservatives out of the race. Even Ladbrokes are putting the odds of the Conservatives winning in Walthamstow at 100/1. Only the Lib Dems can end 18 years of Labour neglect in Walthamstow.
